World's Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band unleashes grease-rock

Don't take our word for it: "If you don't like the Supersuckers, you don't like rock 'n' roll," says Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead. "They played my birthday party. They rock!" says Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. "I love the Supersuckers, our whole band loves you guys!" says Robin Zander of Cheap Trick. "The Supersuckers understand that great rock and great country are, at least on a spiritual level, exactly the same thing. Rock on, boys," says Steve Earle. "The Supersuckers rock ferociously whenever they feel like it," says Little Steven Van Zandt of the E Street Band. The band, formed in 1988 in Tucson, Ariz., has performed on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," backing Willie Nelson; at Woodstock 2000; in Russia, Japan and Australia; and recorded with Vedder, Earle, Willie and supporting Pearl Jam, the Ramones, Social Distortion, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Kelly Clarkson, 50 Cent and Neil Diamond. For fans of greasy rock -- Southern Culture on the Skids, Reverend Horton Heat -- Supersuckers can't miss.

"The Duality of the Southern Thang"

"The Duality of the Southern Thang"......
Category: Life

I can't take credit for the phrase,"The Duality of the Southern Thang". It was actually coined by Patterson Hood of the Drive- By Truckers. But for those of you Not Lucky Enough to have been Born & Raised in the South I can Try to Explain it. There exists the perception of the South by those that aren't from here and have never lived here;and the Reality of the Southern Expierence. The two are entirely different. We are not all illiterate, inbred, toothless, racist, rednecks wandering around barefoot in worn out overalls as we have often been portrayed by folks from other regions of the country;who don't know any better. Many of us are well educated, hard working folks with more tolerance for others than you could ever know. We are not all Right-Wing Bible Thumping Republicans. There are many of us who are Liberal Minded Democrats and Liberterians. This being said; There are a few things you should learn and take to heart if you plan on visiting or moving to the South. At the Top of the List: We Don't Give a Shit How You Did It Up North! You came down here;so deal with it and ADAPT! Remember I-85 &I-95 runs both ways and you can always leave if you can't. We are basically a friendly sort of people and wave at perfect strangers for no appeart reason. It's called Southern Hospitality,Learn It! We say Please, Thank You,Yes Ma'am, & No Ma'am because we were raised to be polite and to show respect to women. Yes, Most of us own guns;but we're not gonna shoot anybody that doesn't need shootin'. I had a great-uncle ;who when asked why he always carried a flask of whiskey and a pistol with him said : "Well, You never know when you might run into a friend who wants to have a drink or some sorry sum-bitch that needs shootin'. "
Unless you are a diabetic;there is only one kind of TEA:It's Iced & It's Sweet;and That's just the way it is. Grits are a side dish that goes with EVERTHING. Cornbread is NOT Sweet. When you go into a local diner or cafe;the waitress will assign you a nickname. It could be Honey,Sugar,Sweetie,Darlin',Baby or any number of others. Go with It and Appreciate it for what it is : Yes, Southern Hospitality. College Football in the South is a Religion;so treat it as such. And One More Thing: Just Because We Seem to Move & Walk a Little Slower & Talk A Little Slower ; What others Don't Realize is that All That Time We're Thinking......
Peace :)

The Timeless Genius of John Kay
Posted On 05/01/2007 18:42:57
John Kay & Steppenwolf released the album "Monster" in 1969,my Freshman year in high school. John's lyrics echoed the feelings of millions of Americans across our country,as the Vietnam War raged on & on. Read the lyrics below and you will see that they are timeless and just as true today as day they were written. Why can we as a country;not learn from the mistakes of our past???? If we are to survive as a nation; We must learn from these mistakes and change the dangerous path we are now on....Peace,D.G.
"Monster"
Once the religious, the hunted and weary
Chasing the promise of freedom and hope
Came to this country to build a new vision
Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope
Like good Christians, some would burn the witches
Later some got slaves to gather riches

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
And she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

And once the ties with the crown had been broken
Westward in saddle and wagon it went
And 'til the railroad linked ocean to ocean
Many the lives which had come to an end
While we bullied, stole and bought our a homeland
We began the slaughter of the red man

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
And she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

The blue and grey they stomped it
They kicked it just like a dog
And when the war over
They stuffed it just like a hog

And though the past has it's share of injustice
Kind was the spirit in many a way
But it's protectors and friends have been sleeping
Now it's a monster and will not obey
"Suicide"
The spirit was freedom and justice
And it's keepers seem generous and kind
It's leaders were supposed to serve the country
But now they won't pay it no mind
'Cause the people grew fat and got lazy
And now their vote is a meaningless joke
They babble about law and order
But it's all just an echo of what they've been told
Yeah, there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watchin'

Our cities have turned into jungles
And corruption is stranglin' the land
The police force is watching the people
And the people just can't understand
We don't know how to mind our own business
'Cause the whole worlds got to be just like us
Now we are fighting a war over there
No matter who's the winner
We can't pay the cost
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watching
"America"
America where are you now?
Don't you care about your sons and daughters?
Don't you know we need you now
We can't fight alone against the monster

Relections on the Va.Tech Tragedy....

Reflections on the Va. Tech Killings....& More...
Current mood: melancholy

I've waited a few days to comment on this tragic event, to let it sink in & to give folks time to get over the shock of it. The senseless taking of these students lives has drawn people together to comfort and support each other in this very trying time. It has stirred people who are normally apathetic to reach out and try to do something, anything to help the situation. It seems a shame that it takes a tragedy to spur people to action. This got me to thinking....thinking about the 4 year long national tragedy , that is the War in Iraq. This is also a senseless loss of brave young Americans lives. A war based on lies, deceit,& greed, that has cost over 3,300 American lives and accomplished nothing. If the American public would just come together in the same way they have for the victims and the families and friends of the Virginia Tech killings maybe things would change. Maybe, just maybe if enough of us stood up and said we will not stand for another day of this tragic mistake of a war;we could help put an end to it. My thoughts & prayers go out to the people hurting from the Virginia Tech tragedy;but these same thoughts and prayers also go out to the thousands of families & friends of our soldiers who have died for no good reason because of the Bush/Cheney Regime of Terror. It's time to Stop the Boodshed,Time to say:"No More....No More".....
Peace,
Danny G.

"Why the Big Stink Over Don Imus"????

"Why the Big Stink Over Don Imus????"
Current mood: annoyed
Category: Life

Why the Big Stink Over Don Imus????
Any of you that know anything about me ; also know that I have a problem with thin-skinned people who are always whining about being "offened" over what someone else has said. The latest hub-bub is over talk show host,Don Imus refering to the Rutgers Women's Basketball Team as a "bunch of nappy-headed ho's". Now they're offended, and so is Jesse Jackson,Al Sharpton, women's groups and the rest of "The Usual Suspects". Have these folks never listened to Imus before???? Do they not get what his "schtick" is???? Not unlike Howard Stern it is raw topical humor laced with insults and put-downs. It's the guy's job. But No! They all got their little feelings hurt(Oh,Boo-Hoo). Well People,Wake Up,This is still America;as hard as Bush/Cheney Inc. has tried to destroy it, and We still Have Freedom of Speech!
Had Chris Rock,Dave Chapple,or Eddie Murphy said the same thing in one of their gigs ; Would this even be an issue???? Hell No!!!!
If these folks don't like Don Imus, then don't listen to him or watch his show; It's as simple as that. If the Rutgers Women's Basketball Team didn't like it they should just have shot back:"Hey Imus,Talk About Some Nappy Ass Hair;Dude,Have You Looked in the Mirror Lately"????
Seriously, Don's got him some nappy-ass hair for those of you who have never seen him. But now all of the usual crew of bitchers and whiners are climbing aboard the "Crucify Don Imus" bandwagon.
And of course to appease the masses,Imus is apologizing and planning to meet and grovel at the feet of the basketball team, which is the usual wimpy pussy-ass way all these incidents end up these days. The "Speech Police" are hard at work and the "Thought Police"can't be far behind in this, "The United States of the Offended".
Peace,
Danny G.
P.S. : I would be remiss if I didn't give credit for the term,"The United States of the Offended", to it's originator,Robert D. Raiford....

One I Wrote in Feb. 2006....
Posted On 04/06/2007 17:02:06
What This Country Needs Is a Safe 5 Cent Intoxicant... "Let me start by saying the "War on Drugs" is a "War on Our Own People".
Now don't get me wrong ; I Don't have any use for "Crack Heads" & "Meth Freaks";but it's time to start dealing with Drug Addiction as a Medical Problem and Not a Criminal Problem. If an addicict commits crimes because of his addiction;Bust His Ass;but don't put him in prison strictly for being an addict.
I vividly recall when Nancy Reagan Called for people to ,"Just Say No!".
What a Load of Horseshit. Mankind has been searching far & wide since the beginning of civilization for ways to alter his conciousness. And Mankind will continue on this quest "for a buzz" till the end of time.
And why shouldn't we????? From the day a child washes out of the womb into the world ; That child is inudated with references to use Drugs. From the first Immunizations to Flinstones Vitamins to Robitussein and Pepto-Bismol.
As the child grows, advertisers urge him to "Just Take a Pill". Aches,Pains,Can't Sleep,Can't Stay Awake,Can't Take a Crap,Can't Stop Crapping,Need to Lose Weight,Need to "Bulk Up",Anxiety,Depression,Don't Want To get Pregnant,Don't Want to Stay Pregnant ,Can't Get It Up....Ad Nauseum......The ANSWER????? "TAKE A PILL"!!!!!!! Drugs are Hard Wired into People's Brains from Birth!!!
So lets take a different approach. Let's educate children with Real Information and Not a Bunch of Bullshit & Propaganda. Let's let them know that there is a HUGE difference Between an Herb like Marijuana and a Drug Like Meth or Crack. And when people still get addicted to these dangerous drugs let's treat them for these medical & phsycological problems; Before they become a criminal problem. Let's stop throwing a kid who gets busted at music festival with a couple of hits of Acid into Jail for Years ;with Real Hardened Criminals. He probably had No Criminal Tendencies before he went to jail; But you can Bet Your Ass He Will Have When He Gets Out! Let's Quit Turning Occasional Social Drug Users into Criminals.
Let's Move Out of "The Dark Ages" where People were Jailed for Victimless Crimes. Let the Police Concentrate on Real Crime;rather than Crimes Created by Bad Laws that Prohibit What a Person can Do To His or Her Own Mind & Body in the Privacy of Their Own Homes.

Peace,

Danny G.

"Ram Cat Alley : a Tale of Ironic Change"

"Ram Cat Alley : A Tale of Ironic Change"....
Current mood: Nostalgic....

To begin, Ram Cat Alley is the last block of W.Main St. in Seneca, where it dead ends into N. Fairplay St. A number of stories have been told as to how it got it's name. The most popular one is that many years ago there was a fish market there and there were so many cats around it that you couldn't "ram another one in",but I digress. In the days of my wasted youth(roughly 1971-1985), Ram Cat Alley was the "Black Eye" of Seneca. A place where the "Good People" didn't go a ,"Rough Place". Naturally, It was my "stomping grounds". For a wild young hippie like me it was Heaven! there were 3 pool halls,2 other beer joints, and a cafe which also served beer. There were also a few businesses that didn't serve alcohol ; a barber shop,a shoe shop, and a watch repair/jeweler shop. The Christmas Parade would end at the start of the Alley, rather than to pass through it;and I loved it. I cut my preverbile teeth there. Alcohol, drugs, music,& wild women, what more could a young man want.
Cut to the Ram Cat Alley of Today. A few years back, the City of Seneca started a Downtown Revitalization effort. Someone realized the beauty & charm of the acrchitecture of the old buildings of "the alley". Research was done and submitted & low & behold ; Ram Cat Alley was put on the National Historic Registry!!!! A big plaque was put up,old style street lamps, fancy ceramic inlays were put in the sidewalks. The city had all kind of incentives to get new "specialty shops" to open and renovate the old buildings. And they did. Now when you enter the City of Seneca, you see signs that say , "Visit Beautiful Historic Ram Cat Alley". But alas, I miss My Historic Ram Cat Alley. There is however one remaining bastion of the old days,Thank God. The City Pool Room , my version of "Cheers". A place where everybody knows my name. A place where in 1978 I broke my first bone(I was sitting on a picnic table in front of the bar, passed out and did a nose dive on to the floor and broke my collar bone). The bartender "Butch"(RIP),asked,"You Aw' Right???? I said ,No I think I broke my collar bone & proceeded to drive myself to the doctor. A couple of months ago "Miss Pat" the owner of the CPR told me she was growing tired of the beer joint business and that she had put a price on the pool room to try and sell it. "Say it ain't so",I cried. Terrilble visions involving rich Yankees buying my favorite watering hole and turning it into a sushi bar or high dollar coffee bar flashed before my eyes. A feeling of sheer terror enveloped me. Who else would let me run a bar tab for 2 weeks at a time???? Luckily,so far there have been no takers on "Miss Pat"s offer to sell this Historic Old Pool Hall. I can only hope & pray if she does sell it , that the new owners will have the good sense and compassion to leave it as The City Pool Room, The One Last Glowing Beacon of the Historic Ram Cat Alley of My Youth.....Oh, and if you ever find yourself on the "Alley" one evening between 6:00 & 7:00  ; Stop by for "Happy Hour" & I'll buy you a "cold one"...."Cheers".....
Peace,
Danny G.

Observations on Masturbation.....
Current mood: amused
Category: Life

Masturbation , or as Woody Allen called it (Sex with Someone You Love), is a subject that has been near & dear to my heart throughout my life. From those awkward pubesent years up to today ; it  has always been there for me whenever the need has "arisen" ; like the ultimate "fuck buddy". And any person, male or female, who says that they don't masturbate is either a liar or a fool. As the young fellow "spanking the monkey" in the shower told his mom when caught with member in hand : "It's Mine and I'll wash it as fast as I want". And technology has developed some marvelous toys for the ladies out there to use. For us guys though it's hard to mimic the real thing with a device. We basically rely on "Ma Thumb & her Four Daughters" & maybe a porno. Oh, and guys, If you have a significant other;remember to take the porno out of the DVD player or VCR when your done. If your lady finds it there,it will just give her another excuse to have one of those ever familiar "headaches" of hers. On the other hand ; most of us guys are more than willing to help you ladies out with the use of your "Toys". We find the thought of you and the "Wascally Wabbit" very arousing;whether it be watching you with it or assiting you with it. Dennis Miller once said after watching a late night infomercial for it ; that he almost bought a Craftmatic Adjustable Bed , just to see if he could "blow himself". God in his infinite wisdom made man ,(with the exception of a few contortionist freaks), unable to perform this task. And it's a damn good thing. Otherwise we would have all become hemits, there would have been no procreation, and the human race would have died out thousands of years ago. So in conclusion;masturbation is a wonderful gift to us all & the safest sex on the planet. So Enjoy  Yourselves......
Peace,
Danny G.
