Kucinich seeks homemade campaign ads

Posted by Sabrina Eaton July 03, 2007 16:27PM
Cleveland Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich's shoestring presidential bid has previously drawn campaign donations from show-biz pros like actor Joaquin Phoenix and broadcaster Casey Kasem.

Now his low-budget operation is seeking amateur campaign videos from its Internet fans.

"Hello to all you independent producers," Kucinich says in a video his campaign has posted on YouTube. "I'm asking you to join our campaign and to help create commercials that we can put on our website and perhaps even use for broadcast television. I know there is so much creativity out there."

It's rough to make do without the big bucks the other candidates have raised.

While frontrunners Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton announced this week that they'd respectively raised about $32.5 million and $27 million for their campaigns during the last quarter, Kucinich wouldn't release his totals before they're due at the Federal Election Commission later this month.

E-mails he sent supporters last week indicated he was trying to meet a modest $150,000 fundraising goal for the month of June.

A missive today from campaign manager Mike Klein announced that goal was met. It declared: "Thousands of people from all across the country became Patriots of Peace, and we sent a message loud and clear that our message is too important, our work is too critical, and our campaign will continue to spread Dennis's message about peace and prosperity!"
